NYC Bagel Franchise Plans to Open Soon
Later this summer, NYC Bagel & Sandwich Shop will open at 209 N. Second St., Harrisburg in the former Neato Burrito.
The small, but growing chain is based in New York and operates about 20 stores in nine states including Louisiana, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The Harrisburg shop is expected to open in early August while a franchise will also open in early July at 805 Rohrerstown Road in Lancaster County.
“It’s your typical New York bagel. A little crunchy on the outside, very soft on the inside. It’s very dense. It’s not like some bagels you bite into and it’s like a hard roll,” said , owner and founder.
He opened the first bagel shop in 1995 with one location and started franchising them in 2008.
The bagels are made at a facility in New York and shipped to the individual stores where they are baked off, he said. New York City Bagel sells about 20 different flavors including the latest trend, rainbow bagels with swirls of colors.
“We are kind of a mini Panera. We offer a lot of different varieties for breakfast and lunch,” He said.
The shops also sell egg breakfast sandwiches and breakfast platters as well as wraps, salads and both panini and deli sandwiches. Choices range from homemade chicken salad to turkey clubs, Reubens, Cordon Bleu and Philly cheesesteaks.
The Harrisburg location will be operated by franchise owner Jeff Arnold. The 1,300 square-foot cafe will seat about 15 guests initially will be open at least from Monday through Saturday. Catering will be available.
