NY Bagel Cafe & Deli Opening Soon In Fayetteville, NC
A couple of business partnerships comprised of active-duty and retired military soldiers are banking on the promise of a revitalized downtown for successful new retail ventures.
Viviana Hernandez and Richard Savoy, who work together in the Army, are teaming up as owners of the New York Bagel Cafe & Deli. Plans call for the business, at 105 Hay St., to open the week of July 10.
Hernandez, a 35-year-old who embraces Puerto Rico as home, said everything is a go pending a Health Department inspection. She was inside the business early Thursday afternoon with her manager, Mitchell Sanchez, who is also from Puerto Rico.
In fact, Sanchez arrived in North Carolina the week before after running a restaurant on the Caribbean island.
Hernandez has served in the military for 15 years. Savoy is now an Army Reservist and about to retire from the service after 20 years in uniform.
Hernandez loves the downtown atmosphere, and she said everyone she encounters in that part of the city is friendly. She likes the fact that it’s military friendly, too.
“It was something I wanted to do,” she said of opening New York Bagel Cafe & Deli. “I was in the food business before. It was a dream to own my own business.”
Along with that, she felt downtown was lacking in breakfast options.
New York Bagel is a small, but growing chain based in New York. It operates about 20 stores in nine states, according to its website. The shops are centered around what the company bills as an authentic New York bagel, made at a facility in New York.
The shop will sell egg breakfast sandwiches and breakfast platters as well as wraps, salads and panini and deli sandwiches. Choices range from homemade chicken or tuna salad to turkey melts, Cubans, Reubens on rye, cordon bleu and Philly cheesesteaks.
The specialty Vermont-based Green Mountain Coffee will be served.
Hernandez said they hope to have seating for 20, both inside and out, on a front patio.
